Sea Surface Temperature and Salinity in Lombok Strait Reconstructed From Coral Sr/Ca and δ18O, 1962–2012

چکیده

Coral geochemical tracers have been used in studies of the paleoclimatology and paleoceanography tropics subtropics. We measured Sr/Ca oxygen isotope ratios (δ 18 O) a coral sample collected from southern part Lombok Strait, significant outlet Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) to Indian Ocean, reconstruct historical record sea surface temperature (SST) seawater δ O. Seawater O can be approximate salinity (SSS) because it reflects balance evaporation precipitation. The resulting time series reconstructed SST SSS, covering period 1962–2012, shows no clear trend global warming, although includes large cooling event (~4°C) during 1996–1997. Although neither nor SSS systematic relationship with El Niño–Southern Oscillation Ocean Dipole (IOD), weak but correlations are found partly. In addition, data show signals major IOD Niño events 1994 1997, respectively, climatic trends recorded not consistent those along Java-Sumatra coast. To evaluate other influences on ITF we compared our records sites Java Sea, Makassar Ombai Strait. During northwest monsoon (December–January–February), variations at Strait site similar Sea for 1962–1995, which suggests that low-salinity water is carried least where suppresses upstream However, differ three southeast (June–July–August), indicating conditions vary separately Sea. longer term, warming has widely identified Seas, fluctuations may modulating distribution heat waters western Pacific eastern Ocean.

sea surface temperature and salinity reconstruction from geochemical tracers of a massive coral in the persian gulf

the δ18o, δ13c, and strontium/calcium (sr/ca)-record was measured from a 7-year old platygyrasinensis coral located offshore larak island in the persian gulf at a resolution of 22 samples/year. an increasedsampling resolution of 55 samples/year over two annual cycles was also compared with the 22 sampleresolution to evaluate the effectiveness of the sampling procedure. the resulting data exhibi...

Seasonally resolved surface water DC variability in the Lombok Strait: A coralline perspective

[1] We have explored surface water mixing in the Lombok Strait through a bimonthly resolved surface water DC time series reconstructed from a coral in the Lombok Strait that spans 1937 through 1990. The prebomb surface water DC average is 60.5%, and individual samples range from 72% to 134%. The annual average postbomb maximum occurs in 1973 at 122%. The timing of the postbomb maximum is consis...

Study of Temperature and Salinity Inversions in the Oman Sea

In this research, observational data are analyzed to explain temperature and salinity inversions and double diffusion in the Oman Sea. The results of this paper show that intrusive structures extend over a depth of about 100-450 meters in the Oman Sea. Temperature and salinity inversions observed depth of 250 m in winter and summer in the Oman Sea. Steps thickness is about 10 to 20 meters. A wa...

Effect of sea surface temperature (SST) changes on coral ecosystems in Kish Island

Background and Theoretical Foundations: Coral reefs are one of the world's most attractive ecosystems. They have been covering large parts of the world in the tropic areas. Coral reefs in the Iranian waters of the Persian Gulf are largely limited to the Islands. Many factors, including natural and anthropogenic activities cause stress to the reef communities affecting reef development. Coral bl...
